New Year Message | A Bridge Back to Agency

As we enter this new year, we begin with honesty and an invitation to FPC.

 

For many of us, a sense of calm, ease, or even love can feel distant,
not from lack of desire,
but from lived moments where agency was interrupted
and steadiness required more than felt possible.

 

If the idea of needing to be “good” at meditating feels heavy or unrealistic,
that’s worth honoring.
What if this year isn’t about quieting the mind or doing it right,
but about softening expectations
and meeting each moment with a little more curiosity?

From there, choice begins to feel possible again.

Moving from chaos toward steadiness often requires a bridge.


Breath by breath, we remember our way back.

When a breath feels grounding, that’s information.
When it feels tight or shallow, that’s information too.

Neither says anything about your capacity to eventually deepen.

That first breath isn’t meant to carry you all the way to peace, 
only to signal that something can shift,
gently, at your own pace.

 

This is a bridge, not a leap!

A practice for when you feel scattered and overwhelmed

 

Feel
Begin by noticing what is showing up in your physical body.
Maybe it's tension in your belly or jaw, fatigue, restlessness, fear, or resistance.
Understanding that these sensations are information.
It’s okay to feel unsettled AND let's give it some consideration.

 

Pause

Take one breath. Then another. Continue at your own pace.
Here you are creating a small pocket of space where the nervous system can settle into a little more steadiness, confidence, and clarity.

There’s no finish line, stay as long or as briefly as you like.

Your nervous system is recalibrating.

 

Choose
From this space, choice begins to feel available again, 

not from reactivity, but from awareness.

Here, you may sense the ability to decide how you want to meet this moment
and how you want to move forward from it.

Meditation becomes less about doing something “right”
and more about practicing the capacity to choose with a little more courage, a little more curiosity, a little more presence and care.
